I understand you can get some nice streaking effects by placing dots of oil paint on vertical surfaces and then down-stroking with a brush moistened in spirits.

My question is how closely do these dots of paint need to be spaced? How large or small should they be, and what color combinations are recommended?

Ralph, The short answer is that there is really no specific science to this....different effects can be achieved by how many dots and the colors that you choose....

The basic technique for me is to first dampen the area with thinner, apply your dots, then with a clean moistened soft brush, pull down from top to bottom on vertical surfaces. On horizontal, I tend to use a more scrubbing motion, though other effects can be achieved by different strokes.

I generally do the dots in a few sessions, waiting for one session to dry so I can really see what I'm working with....the intensity does change as it dries.

Here are some photos from my Luchs and 232 Vbench builds...I seem to be using the same colors on these...white and yellow ochre...but I know that I also used blue on the 232 and some greens on the Luchs....

Hope it helps....keep playing with it...
