What do you hope to get out of or contribute to planet Armor- I'm just wondering how some of the people that visit here on a semi regular basis feel about this site and how you see your involvement. How does this site fit into your modelling and the web. ;)

Fifteen looks (to this point) and no replies? come on guys- just a litttle informal survey here. We need less lurkers here and more posters.

I could'nt agree more James, this site or any site like it should be used to expand our little hobby. A place for information exchange and sharing of projects and techniques, etc. Even an occasional "Atta boy" or "Nice work" or some type of acknowledgment that you were here. I was checking stats and dowloads just the other day and there appears to be a lot of people using and taking here with no participation. So come on, join in, make PA even better.

I agree. I come here to share what I am doing, to get feed back, and help if possible! More the merrier as far as I am concerned!

I´m in to show some of my work and get tipps on how to improve it.
It´s cool to hear some honest comments from all the very, very talented guys here which work was and is an inspiration for me for a long time.
If i can help someone, it would be a pleasure for me. :)

Ya it's kind of funny I got 3087 hits on my Panzer 1/B build but only a few people commented- not that I was fishing for any compliments but sometimes it enters the brain- "Why bother"
My question sort of is angled to see what this site may afford a user that say Missing Links or Track-link doesn't provide. I like the ability and ease of sharing pics of my work.

Well if we are on that topic I like the vBench. It lets the progression of a kit be seen, and referred to, and not having to seach and find the dreaded red x!

My favorite is the V-Bench too.
You can easily find the work that you will look at, not like on other sites where they dissapear after some days or some weeks.

The pics can still disappear if they are removed from the host site.

True, but only if the owner removes them, they dont just expire or the thread lost in the 3rd page from the front

Yeah, I have to admit, I check these forums every other day but I hardly comment or even post because I usualy have nothing important to say but I loke these forums. I learned alot from your tecniques James.
One of these days when I get my camera working I'll have to post some pictures of my current project a DMl stug IV and my Tiger Early.
but I got to thank all of the posters I learn alot from this sit

For myself, the highlight of the site is the vBench. It makes it quite easy to watch someone's progress.
As for techniques and historical questions I believe that sites like Missing Links, Track-Link and Armorama are just too developed for a site like this to give them a run for the money.
However, the mood here is much more lighthearted and I like having my little sig and avatar. :)

I am brand new here. This looks like a great site and with around 300 members, some good camaraderie with fellow modelers looks like a distinct possibility.
I have frequented Armorama for the past couple of years (about 1,500 posts), and frankly, came across this site based on an Armorama poll querying what other modeling sites are visted.
I hope to post my own modeling efforts here often, and hopefully learn some techniques and tips from others who frequent this site.
This is a great hobby.

Welcome to the relaxed zone of planetArmor....Hmmmm out of 300 people- it seems only about ten people or so bother posting.... lurkers are starting to bug me.... http://members.shaw.ca/hetzer/cluebat.gif

Come on you guys join in....then again I got no control- planet Armor will be whatever it will be.
Welcome to PA WWH!!!
Seriously Steve... Start up a VBench.. pull up a chair.. and join in the Virtual Group Build.. You won't get scolded for saying something nice about someone's work here... And people always are willing to learn!

welcome steve its good to see you over here man.cant wait to see your models on here.dont worry james you have def stirred somthing up and this site is better and better all the time like i said everytime you build a tank on here i know i learn somthing.and i know a handfull of guys on here who are in my model club like tuna and alpen.we talk about this site all the time so like all good things it will grow.and i am guilty as the next guy or gal reading and not posting but have learned at planet figure that when i post my stuff and nobody posts it kinda hurts a little,so i figured reading this thread and thinkin it over i am def going to contribute more.and hopefully like a smile it will catch on here.thanks james and every one else who throws there 2 cents around. :)

But please ...let's not be saccharine sweet around the place. we don't need to put down the seat after we go to the head around here.;)
I don't want to have to get an insulin shot after visting the site ...har har... Hopefully we can all just relax and be our selves.

Man no matter how hard I try not to...I really didn't want to guilt people into posting but to see what others may feel about the site and what they see happening here now and in the future. Glad to know that the site is noticed. As for hurt feelings when not getting replies to posted work - I don't have any hopes or expectations on posting pics- sure its nice to get good feedback but for me the reason I post images of the work is to just share it - with no expectaions of getting anything back- otherwise that is a little co-dependant eh? Plus if I'm happy with the piece it doesn't really matter how other feel. But acceptance in a society of fellow human beings is a basic instinct without it we would not have any society- we all want to fit in. But not to the detriment of our own sense of ourselves and we must remember "to thine own self be true" Just share the pics and don't worry about the results. Forget it and start the next model or just start the next step on the one you are working on.

I'm not saying that critism isn't good.. helps us all learn.. it's just on one site where WWH and I post, you get in trouble if you only have nice things to say.. or... you are told to not post if you only have nice things to say..

well just one more comment before i put this to rest cause it seems to be gettin silly anyway i didnt mean i only put my stuff up to have people post and if they dont i am upset i meant that it would be nice when you put somthing out there to have it critisized by people who you see doing models on the site so you know if your doing somthin right or wrong be it camo patterns dark or light paint, what ever and hope that people can enlighten you on diffrent techniques and what not. and as you mentioned before you look at a post and there is 70 reads but no posts its frustrating that more people should be involved.anyway i know i will be more involved and keep spreading the word about what a good site it is.thanks johnny

Gents, I really like this site. I feel that its alot more informal than Armorama. I love Armorama too, but Planet Armor is all about armor and thats what I like to build.
Plus we get to see all the new items Dave has at Hard Corps Models, and some very interesting war-time photos.
The Vbench is a smash ! That's the best part of this site. I only wish I had my own digital camera, too take more pics and post them.
I do wonder why the posts and their replies are fewer then some other sites, but I think its due to the lower membership. More isnt always better, quality is. Don't you get sick of throwing down grease burgers at McDonalds ? I'd rather save my money and hit the Outback Steak House. Plus they serve BEER !!!
My next question is, will Planet Armor ever have their own T-shirts and Coffee Mugs ?? Cafe Press would be a good choice of printers ;)
Just something to ponder over your next Fosters Big Bloke.
Cheers !!

Hello all,
I found this site by following James' link on his Pz1b and Alan Bison builds. I haven't really checked the site out in depth, but seems like a good site.
I'm just a "pass the time" modeler and I try to improve my models a bit by using the tips and tecniques posted by the really good modelers like James and Sticky.
I like the format and subject matter posted here, so I guess i'll be lurking about from time to time. ;)

I find this site to be the best Armour site around. Everyone that posts here has remarkable artistic talent. We are humbled and awed by each others' work and enjoy, comment, criticize and recommend to any post, what we think without prejudice. We learn from each other as we strive to improve our skills and and yet we respect each modelers work and accept him as a brother in the hobby. I don't start a thread in the V-bench only because I get too involved in the building of my models to stop and take pics. :) But any questions regarding my model are always happily answered or explained. Long live Planet Armour.

Hello James!
Please don't think: "why bother.." I was totally inspired in your PzIB project. It gave me many ideas and especially info regarding this little beast:)
Hopefully I manage to build one, too.
Keep the stuff coming, sir!
Niko
P.S. I try to get more active posting and sending pics of my feeble projects.

Hi,
my two centivos: I like the athmosphere here(echo?). It's quite relaxed somehow. It's a bit challenging to send any pics of projects to for example Missing Links as it's quite a "pro" site:) Hopefully no one gets offended:O
I try to do my part in posting here
Cheers,
Niko
