SO, this upcoming weekend, is THIS!
http://www.modelexpo.com.au/

Entries start on Friday night from 5 or 6pm, and presentation of trophies is on Monday at 4pm.. WOOT a long weekend here in Melbourne, what better way to celebrate the birth of our Sovereign than having a massive model competition.

So, the purpose of this thread is for those of us to post up shots of our last minute scramblings, frantic model flailings, and over the course of the weekend, those of us who attend can use this thread to post our model shots, people shots, shots of our new model haul.. pretty much anything really.

To kick it off, here is a shot of my entry this year:

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y82/samd1/ModelEXPO2007/DSC_2009.jpg

Thats right - Im sitting this year out I think. I'll assist in judging, but i'm not entering any models myself.

Stay tuned for more model show photo madmess..

Looks like only my Panther will make it the SW G has suffered some problems due to me not paying attention to which Matt cote i was using i now have a white Panther SW the G that goes with the Berge will be there and the Berge still has a long way to go so many details to add and no time :( . I will be down Saturday morning about 11 to enter then back on Monday to pick up the model and buy more stuff i dont really need .

I really need to get my time management organised  .

Cheers Plushy .

p.s I will post up photos soon of progress . :thumb:

Hi Fellas.

So do we know if any of the Sydney or Canberra guys are coming down? I've heard the WA contingent has left all their money in Europe at wont be attending. ;) There was a rumour Terry of PMMS fame was coming over too, but alas it proved to be false.

BT, Plushy, Hilly, Don, Sam, Mick, Jamie, Alex & Bones I'll see you all there. :thumb:

There's also a rumour LQ will be coming down to say hi. Sure, I started that rumour....but a rumour can sometimes prove true. ;)

As the little 1:1 is due in the next week, this is my last chance at freedom for awhile. If you are at the show be sure to look us up, you can't miss BT and I. We will be wearing fluro orange shirts....makes it hard to hide in the crowd and easier for people to complain at you....
Looking forward to catching up with everyone during the show. See you all there.

I will see you guys there..........I will put in my panzer 3j in Russia, as well as some other stuff if I can finish in time. I've hit over 250 hours on the Karl and I'm still trying to make the deadline:( .
.......should be a great weekend of model stuff:) .

Will look forward to catching up as well Sheeds, I can confirm that rumour as fact that Sammy will NOT be entering this year. Hard to believe he wont be applying the blow torch of tough competion to you Anthony. I have whimped out and will only be entering the Tamiya Char in OOB, though I took your advice and have attached it a base with a cobble stone finish. I also took Mic's advice and made it a lot grubbier. By the way Mic I heard from Dutch about Leanne putting off having the baby till after Expo (I know that this not the reason but it sounds good). She is a good woman. Are you suitably excited yet. Good luck mate.

Hi All,
Yep, it's that time of year again. For those of you who remember Woodstock, it's 3 days man, 3 days. Should be a bloody marvelous weekend. Looking forward to seeing all the usual suspects, and catching up a bit, as things have been a bit quiet the last couple of months. To Mic and Leanne, all the best for your expected new arrival, we are all so happy for you both.
See you all at the show,
Alex.

It was a great weekend, great to catch up with everyone, as per usual.

SPecial congrats to Sheeds for winning Best of Show with his King Tiger, a truly deserving win. I was part of the judging panel for BoS, and we were BRUTAL with our scrutiny, and the King was head and shoulders above the other contenders.
Sheeds is going to be even more insufferable now! ;)

Oh yeah, spent more than a GRAND on models.. so that was fun too!

Well, now it is all over, and from the head judges point of view, I have to say it was one of the best expos we have had. The winning entries across the board were magnificent.

Cudos to Sheeds for his best of show.

Cudos for BT as well, walking away with 8 awards or something like that. He has a new nickname now "the burgalar" after stealing so many trophies....

I will post some general show pics later today. The amazing thing was the crowds which packed the complex on all 3 days of the show, not just modellers but the hoards of "Joe Public" and their families each day that came to discover what scale modelling is all about. It was also great to see so many of these families especailly the youngsters walking out with kits under their arms. All in all a fantastic weekend and now to start planning for next year....25th anniversaries are always fun.....
To all of our friends from other countries on PA, put it in the diary and get over here if you can........to those in Australia you need to be here next year.

Well done to the both of you. What many will not know, due to these two being so modest is the awesome amount of work they and the other members in the committee put into the event to make it work so smoothly. It is a great comp due to the fact that mostly those that take part enjoy the social oppurtunity as well as the general high quality of the competition models and the club displays.

By the way I thought that this years swap and sell was great.

Also well done Sheeds for 'Best of Show', really a great effort. I'm sure that as Sheeds is so modest he won't be as unbearable as Sammy thinks.

Hilly also won the peoples choice award for his Karl Dio....I think this is the 13th time he has won this award. :thumb:

It was great to catch to up with the guys, as well as meet Brail scaler Jason Boulter from ML, who won the 1/48 scale category with his Panther "301". It was also good to see the QLD boys leave with pots as well.

It's all in the post shade. I post shaded the base coat with a black/brown mixture. The secret then is to spray 2 mist coats over the top, the first one is an overall covering of the very thin post shade, and the second is a fade or mist coat of a very thin and lightened mix of the base coat. The first blends the intital post shade with the rest of the colours the second then lightens the centre of the panels. The model was then dirtied up with some pigments. pin washes and metalics for corners etc. It doesn't all show up in these pics, I am hoping tomorrow to take some proper pics for the vbench. The secret to the post shade is to out line the camo, and all the panels as well as the nooks and crannies.

G'day Mic
Thanks mate for the info :thumb: I always thought post shading is to spray a darker color of the base coat on the panel edges. Your method sounds very interesting and I am really keen to apply it in practice. Unfortunately, I won't be able to do that until I return from vacation the following week. Aaarrgghhh :(

More pics would be most helpful. Thanks again :) :D

I will try one of these days to do a step by step on post shading. Of course Everyone is different and we all do things in different ways. What may work for me may not work for others. It is all a matter of getting time now.
