Can you post a photo of the dio and one of the terrain you are trying to do?
That way we can help you better.

You also need to determine how wet/dry and how disturbed the earth you will be modeling is. For example the glacial till silty clays can be a very deep reddish brown when wet, but when dry, can become almost pink. Topsoils, especially plowed horizons might range from black to a very dark greyish brown (10 YR 3/2 in the Munsell Color guides) depending on the amount of moisture within.
You can look to see if you can find yourself the 10YR and 7.5YR pages of the Munsell Color book and match to the chips in there. Whatever you do, don't forget to add some shades of grey to your soil colors. People pile on the browns, but lots of soils fall into the grayish chroma
