Pretty psychodelic paint jobs on these Panthers. Comments?

Hi James et al.
These shots show one, as yet unit unknown, DB produced IR Panther in Mannheim (or Waldhof) Germany, and one well known shot of the wrecked LSW….as seen in Panzer Wrecks 1, from memory.
This is the soft/hard edge 3 tone cloud pattern, and the squiggle down the turret is quite common for DB Panthers. This particular example was probably held back by DB due to the bombing damage at that plant and wasn’t in combat for as long as its features would indicate. The front of the tank looks a bit odd due to the mud and grime which is obscuring the pattern
Also of note is the rare way the ends of the side armour have been finished off. They aren’t bevelled.
A very interesting cat, and one I have earmarked for a Jon Bailey article on IR and its use on Panthers….Andrew is doing “Red 8” so it should be one to watch out for. ;)
There is also a front on shot of this in one of the Jap magazines. Further reading, is Trojca's large volume on the Panther, where some DB Panthers assigned to Panzer Regiment Gross Deutschland can be seen at the repair yard with this paint scheme.
Sheeds.

Also of interest is the steel wheel in the last position. These are some real cool pics. Thanks for posting.

good find! :thumb: Sheeds is right, the one with the broken barrel is in Pz. wrecks 1.
Also, I like how they have been labled as "tiger" :p

Some people might be more familiar with these Panthers (and StuG) from this pic from one of the Polish books (I'll edit when I remember the title!)
Seems to be a few other vehicles scattered around. No news on a unit. If it is the Waldhof next to Mannheim - and I believe it is as a Jim Crow photo of one of these Panthers in one of the Ground Powers is evidently labelled as such - then any armour should in theory be to the north and south of the town. Evidently not from these photos.
I wonder if those houses are still there, they look relatively new.
