This photo is captioned 'Marines clean their vehicle in preparation for a unit Parade at a SW Pacific base, before departing for their next landing". The date is July, 1943. I do not know where this base is, but note the rather interesting camoflauge on the vehicle.

Recently, while preparing photos for my next volume of Pacific Focus, I stumbled acrossed a folder of 8"x10" photos of USMC M3 75mm GMC's in action. I am going to publish them in the next PF. Will also include a section of Landing Craft photos, both American and Japanese. Here is a sneak peek at some of them.

Here is a photo of an LCM3 unloading its cargo of ammo into an LVT(A)-2 on the beach at Iwo Jima. A great subject for a diorama!

Somebody emailed me a while ago looking for photos of USMC M32 B2's, I cannot find your email, but if you contact me again I have a few pics that I can send you. See them below.

Again, outstanding photos of WWII USMC armor ! Now you just answered my question on the AFVisluals. I can't wait !

Are you planning any Korean War, Vietnam War, or Gulf War USMC publications in AFVisuals ? I would be very interested in seeing some modern USMC armor as well, as in post-Gulf War actions, esp Kosovo and Iraqi Freedom.

Just an idea :)

Cheers !!

Thanks for the positive response Robert. The subject of the AFVisual books is totally dependant on availability of good photos. So if we can get the photos, you will have the books.

Terrific pics of the M3 75mm GMC! I'm currently building one from Warriors' and Tamiya's kits although I'm doing an Army - North Africa version. Great job finding these Dave!

I can't wait for the next installments of the AFVisuals!

Hello ken,

I too am building the Warriors kit, of course mine will be USMC. I am trying to talk Warriors into re-releasing the conversion, I think they will.

Dave, if you keep finding pics like the ones above, you will certainly re/spark interest in kits like that, forcing companies to re release them.
On the same page, I really do hope that all your work into the history of the USMC will start a fire of sorts under the you-know-whats of the big model manufacturers to produce some accurate kits for us all. There is such a vast array of vehicles that were used by the Corps that it is hard to believe that there are so few kits.

PS: Any chance of making a Doodlebug conversion for us? :) Wish I could find more pics of em.

I should have a few new "Doodelbug" photos and maybe some actual plans!!! A friend of mine contacted me with quite a find of WWII Pacific Armor/LVT info that he has uncovered recently. I am going to visit him mid September and collect the info. I will post what I get.
