Screens over Sherman Wading Trunks?

Hey Folks!

I'm building the Dragon Marine M4A2 with the deep wading trunks.

I've seen many pictures of the trunks from afar, but never a close up. So, does anyone know if the trunk's openings were screened off? I mean the lower part, which was welded to the tank.
I would think so, given no one would want a Japanese grenade shoved into the trunks!!

Any pictures or advice would be appreciated.

I don't know for sure, but I think it would be a safe bet to add screens.

The Eduard PE set includes the screens. If I remember correctly, it was made for the Italeri kit. The screens do not fit the wading trunks from Academy kit.

Are you scratchbuilding the wading trunks or using them from Italeri/Acdemy?

I know the Eduard set includes the screens. But I not trust in some producers instructions. ;)

I am using the Acdemy wading trunks, a second generation style seen in WWII (Saipan, Peleliu, Okinawa) on the M4A2.

I don't know if you have seen these. I have cropped both tanks out of a single overhead photo hence the poor quality. Both these two M4A2s did not have screens.
