When I first started this project I had only decided to do the Launcher part of the complete model. The concept was to do a Stand-Alone model of just the launcher part of the whole thing. Then during the building process I got more and more interested in how this part would look on the complete model. Now after contemplating it I decided this would be part of a two-part project with the trailer being included.

Deciding on the scale was a little tough because I did not have any measurements of the system. The only thing I had to go by was a drawing of the missile cannister. I took these measurements and scaled them down to various sizes, so it would be easy for me to make a choice. I had narrowed my choices down to 1 /35 and 1 /32 scale. So with the help of the few measurements that I got off the Internet and using, once again, common 'deductive scaling' ( a new term I made up. the term is similiar to 'deductive reasoning'), I decided on a scale closer to 1/32.

The model is not 100% exact to scale, as my deductive scaling is not a hundred percent accurate. Close, but not exact. This is what happens when one does not have access to true measurements. One has to improvise like most of you do.

Anyhow, let me present you all with stage 2 of this two-part project build. Hopefully, the first part will be built in the near future. So far the launcher is 98% finished. I still have the cannister to build and to add some decals, cables, touch-ups, etc.

For those of you who have asked many times for a WIP ( Work In Progress) shots of many of my other builds but did not get to see any; I managed to take a series of shots of the building process of this recent build.

The Patriot Launcher WIP (http://one-step-further.com/WIP/ThePatriotStandAlonemissileLauncher/index.html)

Since the launcher itself normally sits on the trailer I had to display it in another fashion. So I built a base almost similiar to the one on the trailer. I think the base adds a little 'JAZZ' to the whole model. Thanks for viewing.

Here is a test shot showing how it's going to look, almost. I guess it'll look better when I'm completely done with it:

Great work!

Your scratch building is superb especially considering you had no true dimensions to go by. Sometimes you have to do the best with what you got. Keep us updated on your progress.

That's an incredible piece of work you have there! :D
I'm curious, how long is that canister?

Well, the front blast panel is done:

The Rear blast panel is also done:

http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g136/tiking/IMG_7052.jpg

The overall look. I just have the mounting pins and locking mechanism to do before the canister is completed. When this is done I'll make another one as this one will be on it's own display mount. The second one I will mount on the launcher.

Thanks Flectcher.

Just added more cables to the launcher. Continuing to add more details:

Just finish painting the canister. Now I have a little problem. Any suggestions on how to make the markings seen on the side of the canisters? Like the forklift and center of gravity warnings? Also arrows showing thr points.

Tiking,

Awesome build man. It would sure be nice to have a first name to call you by.

Anyway, a couple of suggestions for the markings.

Plane modellers sometimes use a small pointy instrument , like a toothpick to simulate very small instruction lettering and just dab little dots for the lettering in the correct color. the square markings just mask them off, and the arrows cut them out of paper, tape, or what ever to make a spray mask.

some times you can find generic markings to look similar to what you need.

Hope that helps.

Tiking,

Great work on the cables, especially on the connectors. :thumb: What did you used to make them? They look just like the type of connectors all US army equipment uses.
When it comes to the markings you can do as Larry suggested, or you could get some decal paper and make them yourself. Its really very easy to do. I made a huge 8 x 11 inch sheet with all kinds of warning signs, instructions and symbols just to keep them around in case I need them. ;)

Thanks guys. Larry, just added my name in the upper left hand corner :). I thought I had already added it to my signature but apparently not. I just did now. Thanks for the reminder :)

Thanks for the tip. :)

Dave, the connectors were scratch built using styrene tubes. A couple of slices and gluing and voilà! You mentioned something about making your own decal paper. Is there a link to where one can buy the paper and/ shows you how to make one?? Thanks a lot.

Lawrence, thank you. Glad you like them.

I get my Decal Paper at www.micromark.com
They sell white and transparent decal paper. They don't have any instructions on how to use it, but it fairly easy, I just print them in a regular printer.

Thanks David. I managed to find testorscustom decal system. I'm going to test it out. BTW, I'm building another canister, the PAC-3 canister instead of the PAC-2, to use on the launcher. I'll post some pisc when done.

Nice Charles...are you building the vehicle for this as well or just the Launcher?

Great looking model.......:thumb:

Thanks Serpico. Unfortunately no. Then again, I'm not sure. I have not thought about it but most likely not. I would have to scratchbuilt everything since the scale is not 1/35. I still have the cannister to build.
