I picked this kit up for about 12 bucks from Greatmodels.com. I thought it would be a perfect testbed for some finishing techniques I had never tried before.

Shots of construction. The kit went together well, with some filling needed on the roof. Also, not having much reference on the vehicle I cannot really comment on the accuracy.

The tires are odd as they seem to have a very sticky surface. Also, I've heard that they split over time. However, I did not want to spend much money at this time, so I stayed with them.

Here's some shots of the initial basecoat (Tamiya Desert Yellow and White), the mix being tweaked a bit here and there to add a little variation to the scheme.

I sprayed the green camo next using Tamiya Field Gray. The markings are completey fantasy and sprayed on using Tamiya paints and some stencils made of masking tape.

Next came some washes with Burnt Sienna oil paint. These were applied in thin layers to try and gradually build up the darkness around the details. Unfortunately, I don't have any shots of this stage!

After that I broke out the small brush and began chipping with Vallejo acrylics:

After some more washes using various oil paints (burnt sienna, yellow ochre, emerald green):

Hope to add some pigments this weekend and wrap this bad boy up!!

Comments, criticism welcome!

Super work man! ;)
It's good to see someone else using their workbench to post images of their work- PA is new and these things take time to catch on but I like the format for visual things....

Wow!!! Awsome chipping, love the mixing up of the underlying colors.. also the stains are great.. I don't really do modern, but I can appreciate a work of art none the less..

Thanks guys!

You are right James, this forum makes it very easy to start a build thread and keep it updated. I wish they were all as easy as this. Hopefully the site will grow with time.

Charlie, thanks again for the kind words. Modern was not my style until about a year ago. Some shots of vehicles I saw in Iraq started to catch my eye and I had to give a few of them a go. Plus, the DML kits for some of these vehicles are just so darn cheap!

A quick update to my build.

I used MMP's for the first time on this model and was not very successful. The thinner I used reacted poorly with my paints and this was the result:

Not pretty. I deserve it though for not checking the mixture prior to using on my kit. I think I can clean it up, but I am going to take a break from it for now. :(
