Howdy fellas,

I was hoping to 'plumb' the ranks here to try to find photos of Sherman's towing something behind them. This could be either the ETO or the PTO.

All help will be appreciated.
TIA.

10-4 good buddy I have 4 pics One is a British Sherman towing a 17lber gun and portee in Italy Two are the 105mm howitzer versions towing an M8? armored trailer And the last one is a Calliope rocket launcher towing another M8? trailer On that last pic you are barely able to tell it is towing a trailer You can see only one wheel of the trailer
Lemme know your E-mail addy and will send them to you tonight

Howdy 'Zod,

Knew you'd come through! ;) Our good friends over at the Big 'A' have tried to be of help, and I think it was ukgeoff that mentioned (I think) the picture he saw of the Sherman pulling both a 17-pounder and a Limber behind it.....but he didn't have a pic, sooooooo you're my Hero!

And, just for anyone else who might be willing to help, I'm thinking that several times during the Allied offensive our boys were required to move alot of equipment in a very short time because the were 'Haulin' hindquarters' across the countryside, so one would think that they might plug almost anything behind a Sheman just to simply get it from point 'A' to point 'B'.

Also, (and this is to you too 'Zod), I have been told that the British turned several of their M4A2's into what's been called 'Gun Tractors', whereby they had their turrets completely removed, and were assigned to towing 17-pound wheeled AT pieces.......I don't suppose anyone would have any Intel/Pics of these???

Thx again everyone.

Tread.

In some pretty extensive research, I have not run across photos of M4 series tanks used as tow vehicles. However, Ed Bale reported that his company made of with some amphibious armored trailers. These were used to carry artillery ammunition ashore at Tinian, and parked just inshore. The company used them to haul additional ammunition.

In general tanks would retire to a company resupply point established inshore from the beach; LVTs or DUKWs would drop off at the resupply point.

The most common vehicle for ammunution resupply was the jeep, with or without trailer.

Hi all,
This is my first post here at planet armor. Some of you may know me from armorama. :)

Tread,
I have one pic of a Sherman towing a tralier in the ETO in early 1945 (I think)
It is from British Pathe. Would it be all right if I posted it here in the thread?
TIA :)
