Hi
While I was waiting for parts to my Jagdpanzer IV from Ardennes I have build another, new scene with the old dragon's Pz III J. It shows a vehicle from Stalingrad and the dio is entitled "Die Rote Barrikade". There will be of course some figures there. The kit is particullary OOTB, I've only replacced the gun barrel.
The whole groundwork is from scratch including the ruined factory chimney.

Wow what a beauty... :)
What material did you use to build the smokestack and ground work?

Thanks gentlemen.
The ground work is particullary made with a mixture of sand, water and wood glue and some tiny rocks and plaster bits. The grates and metal bits are made with plastic card.
For the chimney base I've used plaster plates cutted earlier to the proper size. The chimney is also made with plaster, it was very time consuming work...but I think it's worth that.

Could you please give us some more information on how you did the chimney? I'm working on a Tamiya T26E3 now, and would like to place it in an industrial scene.
The chimney looks really great! Great weathering on the III as well.

Thanks Martin
The cylinder for the chimney was casted in a paper tube, my friend who makes plaster buildings helped mi with that a bit (the first casting I've made myself was too big for my pedestal and my friend casted me another one). The most work-consuming thing was to make the bricks. To make the horizontal lines I've used a plasticband to ease the work (I've wrapped it around the cylinder so I could make the lines .
Here are some photos before paintning:

The important thing is that all the work you have to do before the plaster is completely dry. After it sets still in the mould you need to take it out.

So, let me resume:
you got a paper tube as a mould, and poured plaster in this. Or did you use the tube for the inside of the chimney? Did you use some sort of poster packaging tube? I have got some kitchen towel tubes lying around, but I think these won't hold when wet.
And when do you destroy the tube? I think just before the plaster is completely cured. After that you add the bricks, right?
Sorry for being such a pain in the *ss.
Cheers, and thanks in advance, MartinD

Heh, it's not a problem for me to explain everything.
The first tube is for the mould (this one was from thick paper-it was oryginally used to put there sketches, drawings etc.) and the second one to make the hole in the chimney. After fixing it all together you pour the plaster. And voila. Then you can start working with the bricks.

What a great scene. The chimney is beautifully done. I will have to try this out!
Great balance and effect with the mk3 - just the right size. :)
I love it....very well done.
