Hi Guys,
Working on the AFV Club kit, its a winner. And not just because its an Aussie subject!

These shots show what ive done and added thus far. Obviously one glaring omission is the mantlet dust cover, ive added one using Apoxie Sculpt.

The kit goes together great, lots of lovely detail included by AFV Club.

Still lots of little details to add, but construction is mostly finished.

OH BABY!!!

Thanks again Larry, youre a true gentleman for grabbing the Marder II for me!

Ive got holidays from work for 2 weeks (as of next week) and if the Gods are smiling, the Marder II will arrive right in time for me to kick off my hols with a new vbench entry - a funky Marder II!

Sweet! I can't wait (well, I should probably say hope) when they release an IDF version...mmm, so many possibilites

Any idea on which of the five vehicles that you have to choose from that you would make? (I saw some of their names on PMMS, and some seem, um, inappropriate (?) lol)

That Cent looks really good. I might want to get myself one of these when they come available here. A neat build Sam, well done.
Do check the front plate, I can see two sprue attachment points in front of the driver's hatch (photo 5).

Ok, so here are 4 different vehicles that I snapped the last time Sam, Willy and I visited Puckapunual Tank Mueseum about 3 months or so ago. :)
For once I have pics of a tank and haven't had to travel 4 million kms to get them.... :)

Hi Sam Nice Build i got mine in the mail today! :)

i have tons of photos too on the aussie centurion if you want some let me know .

I started scratching a Mk 5 out of the old tamiya cent kit a few years back and collected a alot of photos of the surviving examples . The best online source for pics is this one :

Nice work Sam, gawd you build quick!

That mantlet cover's nice , shame they didn't stick one in as part of the kit. I should have one coming from Lucky Model shortly and it's a vehicle I know precious little about detail wise so I'm looking forward to seeing any tweaks or anything.

Now that I think of it-the kits roadwheels are in vinyl, the real tanks are in rubber!

Hi Guys,

well things have progressed a fair bit since my last update.
Dan, well the road wheels at first dont look like they will do together right, the rubber portion attaches in an odd way, but once under paint, they look spot on.

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y82/samd1/Centurion/_DSC7181.jpg

The paint mix is Gunze H420, with an over spray of Tamiya Nato Green. I would have used Gunze H303, but ran out, and all the LHS's nearby were out too. Willy Nailor is building a Cent too at present, he used H303, and its spot on.

Jumping ahead to weathering. Man, weathering vehicles in SVN is a bit of a nightmare I think. I used a mix of all Migs' pigs... his Vietnam earth colour, boy a little bit goes a long way! I ended up using African Earth more than the Vietnam colour.
So, these weathering shots are all very much work in progress. I know Willy is having the same issues as I in regards to the orange nature of our cents!
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y82/samd1/Centurion/_DSC7203.jpg

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y82/samd1/Centurion/_DSC7206.jpg

I launched a spare roadwheel bracket somewhere. Also, check the decal silvering on the marking on the gun barrel.. even after a mountain of gloss varnish before applying the decals, Mouse House decals still silvered.

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y82/samd1/Centurion/_DSC7207.jpg

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y82/samd1/Centurion/_DSC7205.jpg

So, still lots to do, gotta tone things down a little, paint all the detailly things, oh and try to fix the track on one side. I was a little vigorous when wiping the pigs from one side and snapped the track.

Hi Sam,
Nice build you got there :thumb: . I just picked up this kit and was looking for some on-line guidance when I found yours. How did you go about fitting the fume extractor(?), parts I56 and I57, over the front of the barrel? I have a small piece of paper from AFV instructing me to drill it out to 4.2mm. That’s ok but I don’t think you did and I wonder how you got around this problem? I’m tempted to cut the barrel in half but thought I’d ask you first to see if you’ve got a better fix than a sloppy fitting extractor idea, TIA.

Check the Perth Military Modelling Site for a review, and on how he fixed it. Yes, cut off the barrel tip ... www.perthmilitarymodelling.com

@ Sam: looks very good to me. Some foot prints, rain spots would look great. They also break up the dusty look a bit.

Thank all :).

Direct link to Cent page and this quote from there ;).

Another solution as suggested by Erik von Rosen on Missing links which is probably easier and less chance of mishap is to cut the barrel inside the area covered by the fume extractor thereby hiding the cut after assembly. After cutting the barrel remember to add a small plastic card disc the same width as the saw cut to return the barrel to the same length as above and simply glue the barrel back together inside the fume extractor.

The idea of cutting the barrel in half is what I was thinking about doing (cutting the end off is a bit to "pro" for me :o ). All I did after reading this was run my heavy hobby knife across the barrel while rolling it backwards and forward, I’ve then snapped it in two. It worked out well as now all I’ll do is glue the front half of the barrel to the extractor and the back half to the firestorm mantel (when it gets here) making it a case of rotating it to get the extractor exactly on top.

Sam/Martin,
Did you use anything as a guide to cutting back the front track guard sections on part C24?
I’m going to build based loosely on “Been Seen & Done” and it has a totally different approach to the track guards. Again thanks for posting your very inspirational work.

Well Ed, I don't the kit itself. I knew about the solution Terry used, and thought it be helpful. I But I can't help on the fenders, sorry. :o

Thanks Martin ;) ,
You know how it is when you get a kit and start digging for references. I’ve found some good pic sites but was after a bit more info on the Mk 5.

Sam

I somehow missed this thread. Excellent build :thumb: All you need now is a NVA T-54B.

I am very tempted to get this kit. The LHS is starting to get pissed with me because everytime I go to the shop, I ask them to open up the box for a look. ;)

Did you use the vinyl tracks or did you get the single link ones?
