Hey James,
good to see you back at the Planet. ;) Interesting tank.......I have never seen one of these before. Is it big? :o It looks it......... how does it compare in size with a panzer 4? Could you take a photo with a german tank next to it? ;)

Hi Ian ,
Its good to be back , just gotta find a cure for my AMS then everything will be normal again . I have always been a fan of the French tanks during the early war years so as soon as Tamiya said they were going to produce the Char B1, i put in my preorder at hobbylink.
I have 2 of the Char B1`s now along with a Comet by Bronco and have two more Char B`s on the way as well as a SIG 33 Bison 1 and the AFV Aussie Centurion . So look out for more Vbench posts very soon .
Heres the comparisons of size against the Revell / Dragon Stug 3G which i must get back too at some stage and finish .

I was just wondering about the sheet plastic you added to the top of the sponson. Will it be noticable if not added and what is it for? Also I noticed you have not shaved the 2 rectangular pieces off of the hatch on the upper deck. I'm trying to find pictures to see if these are handles and so must be replaced or actual protrusians. Do you know? Thanks in advance.
Oh and cool to see so far. I'll have to watch your build.

Hi Hagar ,
the light coloured parts on the top of the sponsons are not sheet plastic they are mr surfacer 500 filling up the injection release points . I did find a photo showing the real vehicle without tracks and the sections i have painted with mr surfacer should actually be removed .
see here :
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v246/Thiokol/b1bis_seclin01-1.jpg
havent stated working on the top deck yet but the two rectangular hatches just behind the turret need the protusions replaced with handles but this doesnt seem to be the same on all B1`s the vehicle at Samur doesnt have handles on the two hatches . The Photos of the B1 bis `ATHOS` seem too show the presence of handles .

You can see more pictures of a (still) working B1 Bis on this link :
http://milinet.free.fr/modules.php?op=modl...showgall&gid=15 (http://milinet.free.fr/modules.php?op=modload&name=My_eGallery&file=index&do=showgall&gid=15)
This is the B1Bis from Saumur Museum France.
Take care about these references, seems that the museum don't use the good turret and there's something wrong - can't remember what but i can ask B1 Bis expert on French forum if you want. ;)

Benjamin,
from memory the problem with the B1 Bis in Saumur is that there is a hatch on top of the commanders observation turret which isnt present on any of the other survivng B1`s .
I prefer to use the WW2 photos to work out the details rather than museum vehicles .
Cheers Plushy

Hi Bruno
The B1`s in the photo are at Fort Seclin ,
i dont know when the photo was taken as i found it on the Chars Francais website .
Hopefully someone one who lives nearby might be able to provide more photos one day i certainly have my fingers crossed that they will .

Here`s my Update so far :
Interior photos are scarse to say the least and the plans i have found dont have scale or measurments so the old mk 1 eyeball is my ruler . So please forgive some things being a bit wrong . ;)

:o Sweeeeeet! ;) Is that Lionroar or Aber p/e 'plating' that you used for the floor of the compartment? j/w
Ok, this may sooooo very elementary, but here goes....is the back end solely for the engine? I mean, obviously, that's the engine compartment area, but that's just so much space! Was the engine that big? I'm just curious because overall, this tank seems so massive...

Hi Guys ,
Thanks for the Props .
R.C the majority of the back section was for the motor and transmission but there was also a radio ,ammo storage fuel tank and a hell of a big radiator in there as well . The motor wasa big old inline aircraft motor a 16.5 litre 6 cylinder .
The floor plating is an old sheet i had lying around i think it was from Eduard .
this is the floor plan from the Chars Francais website .

James do you want all the photos or just certain parts ?? send me a pm and i will send you what i have . :)

Excellent work Plushy, you're a brave man! Glad to hear you found some interior pics :)
RC, the engine space is from behind the turret to where the top armour angles down. From this point to the rear is the space for the transmission for the rear drive.
This elevation from Char Francais will make it clear.
xxhttp://www.chars-francais.net/images/plans/b1b/b1bis-plan_06.jpgxx
Regarding it's size, oddly when you stick a 1/35 figure next to the model it seems a lot smaller than it does when you stand next to it in real life. Using familiar vehicles for comparison, it's sort of Panther length but not so wide and not quite so tall - more Sherman sized for the latter two. It does stick out amongst vehicles of it's era though.
Regards _ Andrew
