Sherman kit Question

Hi Guys
Which of the current Sherman kits( apart from the Firefly) are suitable for use as British Shermans?

Well Pete,

I would say in plastic kits Tamiya M-4, Italeri M-4A1 76mm, DML M-4A4 (but I don't know if it's still out) as for resin conversions maybe some else has a better list. Hope it helps alittle for you. :)

The US kept the M4A3s for their own use and provided versions of all the others to our Allies

tamiya M4 early. OOTB its fine, just give it british aerials.
italeri M4A1(76mm) some of these were used in italy.
DML M4A1, its rare but ok too
DML M4A4 the main version used by us brits.

resicast make some really expensive DD shermans
and a conversion for the M4A4 based crabs

for conversions,
trakz make an M4A2 mid production hull conversion
cromwell make an M4A1 direct vision hull conversion
formations do a few suitable ones too.


we didnt use any M4A3s, as has been said, the US kept them all.

Good question. I've got an additional one for ya.

How about the bogies and road wheels. Did the brits (it's always 'weird' for me to refer to the "brits" in this way....because I was born in Britain....anyway), use any particluar types, or was it a normal progression like the U.S.

In fact, now that I think of it, I could have sworn I just recently saw a British Sherman with both (road wheels) on the same vehicle.........now let me think....

I don't think it is that unusual to have both types of wheels on a Shermie. They would often use whatever wheels were available. Many times I would see one type of wheel carried as a spare even though a different types was fitted on the tank. I myself use a variety of wheels on my tanks just for variety.

As for the bogies, they Brits got whatever was being built at that time. Bogies would have evolved just as the US ones did.

I've always liked the British Firefly version of the Sherman, aside from the main gun improvement (plus a couple of other things) the turret has the exaggerated rear extension on it, which makes for a perfect place to set your cup of tea down on before proceeding to chase wild cats around the French coutryside..... ;)

Ahhh so thats what its for, heres silly me thinking it had the radio in it!

must have been short of tea trays!

speaking of cuppa's, did you know that all postwar british AFV's are able to be fitted with a boiling vessel, to make tea! cool eh?

I too heard the Brits added it for their tea. Then someone realized that they could fit a radio inside!! :lol:
