I have a few books back in England with Char B pics in. Would this kit be suitable for the 1940 French campaign? Can just picture the photo with the SS Männer and the surrendering French crew.
TIA

This is great. Bout time Tamiya did something like this. Hope it is a change of directionfor them, more obscure WW2 subjects will be great. Bill Chilstrom's French Tankers will look great with this. One for the list I think.
Martin - This is great for 1940 stuff. It was the best tank in 1940, even better than the german stuff. Just a shame the French had a bad operating doctrine and handed them out piecemeal. Everytime the Germans faced this and the British Matilda II they had great problems. Half the reason why the 88 came to be used in the A/T role.

Hi Guys !
Of course, very good news, this future B1 Bis !!!
In France, when the announcement was made for the opening of the Paris Model Show, we did not believe our eyes nor our ears !...
One of the best books on it, is this one :

You can order it at "Histoire & Collections" (Paris, France), HERE (http://livres.histoireetcollections.com/publication-1306-chars-b-au-combat-hommes-et-materiels-du-15e-bcc.html)

A very bad doctrine, it's true, but not only.
The B1 Bis (and all the others french tanks) had a too small turret, with only one man, who, therefore, was too much busy. Too many things to be made at the same time ! :(
And most of the vehicles had no radio... :o

You can order it at "Histoire & Collections" (Paris, France), HERE ;)
or at Amazon.com here:

for those of us in the USA. :)
I have to admit the B1 Bis has never held much interest for me but seeing the pics and just those two camo schemes is very intriguing, and you know since it's Tamiya it will go together well.
Cheers,
Mike

Yes, of course Mike ! ;)
Supplementary precision: the book which I indicated is indeed a magnificent reference, but concern only B1 of the 15th BCC.
Another REFERENCE for the B1 Bis is the Trackstory N° 3, writes by Pascal DANJOU :
http://62.210.160.29/ImgAlbums3/Images1/30406/gi0001PcaAD15042006143035339256.jpg
HERE (http://perso.wanadoo.fr/minitracks/b1bis.htm) is the direct link towards this book.
And HERE (http://perso.wanadoo.fr/minitracks/trackstory.htm) is the Trackstory Web site. (I find that it's a little bit slow...)
There is also a Web site really amazing on the history of all the French tanks, of the previous history in our days (Webmaster : Antoine MISNER) :
Chars et blindés français (http://www.chars-francais.net/index_a.htm)
For example, let's have a look towards this page :
Alphabetical List of Identified B1 bis Tanks (http://www.chars-francais.net/listing_b1_bis_a.htm)
It is the history, illustrated with numerous photos, of almost all the B1 Bis, classified by the alphabetical order of their nicknames !!! :)
Interesting, isn't it ?
Yes, we have here in France some eminent specialists of our tanks !

You know, when I think about it, this kind of makes up for their 1/48th scale Hetzer lol
