Hmm, initial production Tigers huh? Well, OK...

Definitely one of 502's initials, but sadly the turret number can't be made out-

Next, Tiger 3 in their distinctive winter camo-

502 renumbered their Tigers towards the winter, as they only had 5 operational. Now we have a few shots of Tiger 2, in it's panzer gray finish.

The notations aren't mine, I hunted these down off ML some time ago. But from what we can see, Tiger 2 has a plate welded on it near the driver's vision block. Maybe to repair shot damage? So we can be resonably certain that this is the same Tiger in all three shots. But here's what I wonder about- does anyone else think that the stowage bin in pic #3 looks like a Panzer III bin, while in the previous pic it's different?

Here is a picture from the Hunnicutt book on the Pershing. This Tiger was taken out by Pershing Number 40 at Elsdorf.

Here's some profiles that might help........... I tend to check out the color and look for the photo. The profiles can give you an idea of the scheme and whether it will look cool or not. Only a guide but a good start.
Photot are from TIGER COLORS 136.

Nice pics of 113. Interesting story behind that one. According to Restayn's book, this was one of the initial Tigers- Number 3. It was renumbered to 14, then 113. It seems that it has recieved modifications to give it the features of an early model. Remember, the initial Tigers had no mouning points for the side skirts, tow cables on the side, and originally no stowage bin.

I just thought of this the other day- everyone builds Tiger 100 with the two stowage bins on the turret sides. But I've never seen a pic of it :o

Evan, Tiger 100 from the other side............ no bin in place but the staps to hold are there. Other shots of this tank are always from the other side, with the other bin attached.

TIC 1 has this tiger as 111 and in the photo you can just make out the number through the muck?

I guess that photo isn't in my paperback copy. But good for raising the issue. They did renumber their Tigers, and I seem to recall a post on ML saying that '2' could be the former '111'.

A question for all the Tiger buffs. Is the Tiger no. 112 in this color profile one of the Initial of the 502 or is it an early tiger. In the color profile it has the bolts for the side finders but in the Tiger I of the Eastern Front book it has none or maybe these are two different tanks I am looking at. I am looking for one of the 502’s Initials to build other than 100 and 121. It seems form info I have gotten on ML that 3/14/113 was an Initial but somewhere along the line its chassis was changed out with an early one. Also could anyone point me to any others initial’s which may have had the bolts welded on for finders. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike

Tiger 112 is an initial of 502. The profile must be poorly researched, as pictures of 112 and another Tiger at Fallingbostel in August of '42 exist in TiC I and Restayn's Eastern Front book. And have neither stowage bin nor mudguard mounts on the hull. I decided to go with 112 myself. I just got up, but I'll check my books later today for any more info.

Thanks Evan. This is the one in Restayn's Eastern Front book I was speaking of. I like the green camo.

Here's what I've got for options-

Tiger 100- Restayn has a shot of it without the bins on the sides, so maybe you could build it that way.

Tiger 111 aka Tiger 2- The one with the patch welded near the driver's vision port. Tool stowage seems modifed, check out Tim Loungeway's V-bench for his build. Looks like your usual panzer gray.

Tiger 112- discussed earlier

Tiger 3- has the whitewash/panzer gray winter camo. No bolts on the sides, but it appears to have a stowage bin of some kind.

That's what I can tell from the photos I'm looking at. If it helps, TiC I gives the following info for turret numbers in the organization diagram.

Dec. '42- Tigers 100, 101, 102, 111, 112, 121, 122, 131, 132. By Feb. of '43, there were only 5 tanks, numbered 1 to 5.
