Interesting Andrew, I just pulled up PA and saw your post, funny thing is I just recently got one of these little buggers myself and I'm at this moment (well as soon as I finish typing :) ) getting set up to do some zim on a Dragon late Tiger with it, using superfine milliput. I wouldn't have thought to go back over where I had already rolled it, nice idea. :thumb:

Thanks,
Mike

Thanks Andrew!!
The AFV Club roller looks extremely promising for Panther zimm. Is that the widest wheel you used there? I wonder if by over lapping or applying a second pass, one could do the indentations on the upper 'ridges' of Tiger 1 turret zimm?
Sorry I dont have a pic of this handy - but its very prominant when you know its there!

Hi Mike,

The roller's great to recreate the Panther pattern but go careful on your Tiger as I'm not sure these were or rather, so many were, rolled. Best check your refs first as I'm sure you have anyway* I've seen it on a Elefant maybe but I'm not so up on Tigers - in fact not so up on anything Tiger.
Well I just finished doing one side of the hull and I think it looks OK, not great but OK. The pics I'm going by, to me, it appears that the hull at least may be rolled. My reasoning is that the rows are so uniform and even that it would be tough to trowel it and get this effect. (but lord knows I have been known to be wrong before :) ) Here are some of the pics, what do you think?

This is somewhat of a "practice" model for me anyway, as I have a late Panther A project planned, so I'm trying the roller out. This is my first time using milliput, and my first serious attempt at zim in years. (the last time I did it I used Squadron green putty :o )

Cheers,
Mike

Andrew, Where did you buy the AFV Cub Applicator. Have been trying to get my hands on one but no luck.

Sam, Mike, as above I'm not so clued up on Tigers but having a look through some books in my lunch hour then, yes, I can see on some Tigers the hull is 'rolled'. On the turret, good point Sam. It looks raked or 'sticked' ( :) )? and then had a large roller create the indentations over the top.

I'm sure everyone's seen this image but it's ideal to show the rolled hull zimmerit and the indentations Sam mentions.

Ken, I got mine from Hobby Link Japan at www.hlj.com It was about 3 GBP or $6, something like that.

Willy, I've not tried it but I imagine you could talc the Tamiya putty to stop the tool sticking?? Or water even. The JPIV was a pre-Xmas build but has been relegated to the pile of shame while I start on a Bad Kiss. Pussy.

Ken, if you don't have any luck at Hobbylink, try Hobbyeasy. I ordered mine from them when they were out of stock at Hobbylink.
