I have been looking at James' goodies list and thought it was a great post, so I have started one of my own. At this point I would like to add that I am married with children so the additions will be at a trickle.Comments concerning Goodies welcome.

;) Great book Stuke. Highly recommended. It has heaps of really nice profiles and good info. Maps, unit org and a suprising amount of photo's that I did not previously have. Obviously only deals with the early tigers but a great ref, especially for paint. They do another called Tiger profiles which is good 'painting' one that just has color profiles and nothing else. Get it, you won't regret it

Larry, this book is excellent for KV2 close ups plus lots of knock out shots and all the photography is very clear. Highly recommended if you are going to do that new Trumpeter [that's why I got it]. ;)

And there it is , the first sign - "I didn't know I already had it!"
The seventh sign is [when you are really gone] buying a kit with all the good gear like brass etc, getting home and you find you not only have it but it is already half started and sitting in the box or in a long forgotten corner .

I had a bit of a windfall and headed for the model shop and then the Mil bookshop....... Hylands. Wall to wall history of war and tech Military books - heaven. For once I bought more models than books. Cheaper!
I am still trying to get the Georgian Legion Normandy to finish my Bunker scene but haven't had any luck yet. Also, do any of you know if there are turned barrels for the quad flak 20mm from Tamiya and brass sets for it etc?

Hey Ian, when I built my Tamiya Flak 38 I used the Schatton turned barrel. It is really nice and is also good for the quad 20mm. But of course you would have to buy 4 of them :( . The brass set I used is from eduard and is quite decent.

Welcome to the Planet James.........you will have a great time. The crew here are the BEST!
I am steadily subjecting these rogues to my STUFF but I don't want to flood the place. I do have more on the way so just stick around the 'planet 'and they will turn up! ;)
Just make sure we get to see some of your stuff too :) . Gordy can set you up with a V-bench if you like.

Well I finally got the figures for the diorama of the bunker, thanks to Mic Bradshaw. Got em' fine through the post Mic.
I also got some American figures as well to go with an Easy 8 I have in the cupboard.

I have taken some detail shots of the Georgian Legion figures. If you are interested they are on my Normandy bunker post here on my V-Bench. I will post one here for interest. I quickly put them together after dinner, so they still have some more cleaning up to be done.

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c131/3dbattleart/Normandy%20bunker/georgian1.jpg
The figures are really well carved and the poses are very realistic. My only complaint is the helmuts. They seem a little on the tall side. Has anyone else found that with the DML figures? It could be they are correct and the rest are wrong? :o

Pay day again...........and I suddenly found myself at the bookshop! ;)
Got the second vol. on the elephant before they dissappeared [I am still trying to get Vol 3 on the Panther!]
.......http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c131/3dbattleart/GOODIES/book1.jpg

And at the risk of being drawn and quartered........ a plane [kind of ] book! But it's alright , its for diorama ideas.
..............................http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c131/3dbattleart/GOODIES/book2.jpg
I am fiddling around with some forced perspective ideas for my displays and this kind of thing is 'chocka 'with ideas!
I have scanned a few just to show you because the artwork and the scenes are so'kick ass'. They look nicer in the book but such are the joys of scanning.
The Ardennes........ and check out the hardware on its way to Antwerp. Peiper and the boys! Kingy, Stug 4, panther A and looks like a G and an early 251 Hanomag.
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c131/3dbattleart/GOODIES/i.jpg

Kursk,.......and there's plenty of lovin' going on down there. T34, burning a plenty!
Can anyone pick the unit and production month of the tigers?
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c131/3dbattleart/GOODIES/p.jpg

and my favourite because it just captures the Russia thing so well and the cool , burning Stormavic [ Tiger's arch enemy!] Also don't miss the knocked out equipment on the side of the road. Looks like a Mk4 or 3 has come to ruin. Just love it and can look at these for hours , generating ideas.

This is a captured KV-2 being used for factory defense, dug in outside the Krupp plant in Germany April 1945 [against US Forces]. 'A long way from home' is the name Iwould give this one. Interesting subject though it has been modeled before.... i think it was MIG who did it a couple of years ago. :)

BTW Ian,

Nicholas Trudgen is an awesome artist. There is a military art gallery here that carries his art as well as Robert Taylor. It is run by Virginia Bader. The I believe "Grand daughter to to the Legendary English Ace, who lost his legs, and still flew missions! I can't think of his first name, Robert Bader?

She just released some videos of some interviews she did with Adoph Galland before he passed away. A very nice Lady.

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c131/3dbattleart/GOODIES/trains.jpg
This book is full of great color shots that sow the rust, dirt , stains and streaks......its great for this project and it cost me $10.00 for about 80 pages, mostly color- a4 format.
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c131/3dbattleart/GOODIES/trains99.jpg

There are some good shots in the Panzerwaffe book I have put a couple here.
This is a great Tiger shot of destroyed GD Tiger at Pillau Harbour April 45. The defensive battles on the beach here against the Russians on the high ground were quite nasty. GD were trying to bail from the encirclement under fire!

A late Panther G that didn't seem to last very long as it still looks reasonably factory fresh aside from the dust and knockout damage. 1945. The white numbers have been painted on by the Russians.

Hey Larry,
good to hear from you. 20ft is the plan but the reality might be different! I have the room I just don't know if I will last long enough on the one project.

I don't know about the accuracy if that's what you are asking as I don't have BR52 references but it's the only game in town for the BR52. The PE usually come in different thickness which is a nice touch and easier to solder than Eduard PE. Most of their sets are multimedia i.e. includes resin parts, brass rods and plastic rods.

In regards to price, they sell for around HKD100 to HKD120 (about Aud20 per set) and if you get all of them, shipping should be around HKD100. I get some discounts and can get them for you if you like.

Personally, I didn't care for the twelve pages or so in the middle, (pgs.32 - 46) featuring the obscure Italian tanks. Maybe a few pages on them but not 12 or 14! Also considering the format is similar in size to the Ampersand Allied & Axis, don't you find the price a little high?

Actually, James, I did like those pages, yes there were alot, but they are for the most part good quality, and the guy is pretty much self publishing, or at least distributing. I like to support the guy's entrepreneurialship. Plus not everyone has one. I'd actually like to do one of the one's with the tracks al over it. A bit high but given that he's small, it stands to reason.

The last time I bought without perusing was the Pz I/II and Pz 38(t) books by Ian Allen Publishing. I totally regret the decision. If you want to question about the price, I would put these books right at the top of list of minimal value for money.

Funny, I have those two books and while not the best quality out there I don't feel disappointed at all. There are few images I have not seen before. I just thought for the price (ok, the pages are bigger), the background information is very basic. For example, there is only a one line mention of the Breda under the Armament section IIRC. And the in the Pz 38(t) book, the photo captions for a number of Marder IIIHs are wrong. They are Marder IIIMs. I don't know, personally for the price I would prefer to go for TankPower.

Hey all,

This is the reason why I like to actually "see" what I'm buying. Especially with very expensive books. That being said, if it's under say $40 bucks, It's not too much of a problem. I like the PW books, so I guess it's a matter of your own feelings towards them. I like the way they are presented, especially with these old tired eyes. :p

Maybe we could add a thread with Andrews' on "book talk". Isn't there a bit called that?

While I was on Xmas holidays my brother- in- law quite generously gave me a pile of books from his collection that he is cleaning out. They are older ones but all very rare with some classic titles.... I've been trying to get the original Fedowitcz white books (panther, Tiger , Mk4) for ages....

Hi Ian, good to see you at Hylands last week. Regarding the Fedowitcz white books, I have the Tiger, Panther and Pz IV that I was going to sell at the Expo swap and sell in June. I have no idea as to values, what would they be worth regarding asking price?

Hi Plushy, 3rd June - Thursday.:)

Hi Lawrence,
What's the white box that the soldering iron is shoved into?
It's just the foam packing from the box. I used it to simplifer the background, that's all.

Hey fletch,
Have you done any more work on the KT, or is the commissioned still eating up your time?
no not at this point, I am still finishing the commission and a few others that have come along. The BR52 will be my first stop back with my own stuff.
Yo Larry,
It's agreat iron and it will get a run when i get back to the train, which should be within a month.:(

Michael,
great to catch up last week.:)
My advice with the Fedowitcz white books would be to forget the local market and go international EBAY and ask $50 AUS each - they are extremely rare and still have a nice layout even though most of the shots have been reprinted elsewhere. But the main value to them is their collectability as original Feist and Spielberger publications. These are now part of armor book history as the first serious specialist books on German armour and enthusiasts are starting to look out for these old publications just to collect them. I don't want to get rid of mine for just that reason.:thumb:

I just got this in the mail today...........a true phallic symbol.:D
I can barely lift the box without help as it is 26 kg and very long. You know you have got a real model when it is barely movable even before you build it! Even the box is too cool to throw away.

Madman is the appropriate term I think:eek: . This is mine [all mine!:yell: ] not a commision but it is the fruits of commission work. It's a hard grind when your doing other peoples models but worth it when you get to spend the bucks.:D I've got a back room that I am devoting to my big stuff.......

You guys can jump on a Quantas LA to Melbourne red eye special, you'll be here in a jiffy!

Lawrence,
I will see if I can dig up a shot or two.;)
And I answered your previous question incorrectly...........
you asked about the white box that my soldering iron was sitting in and I answered that it was the foam packing. Sorry I was on another planet I think:eek: . I should have relied that it is the soldering iron holder whish has two draws as well for sponge and tips.:)

Rick, an excellent description.

Laura,
factory shots...........
BASE - pretty good detail , even the dirt is moulded into the lightweight styrine. I would still add additional rubble though.
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c131/3dbattleart/GOODIES/stal5.jpg.

Walls have very good detail right down to shrapnel damage.
................ http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c131/3dbattleart/GOODIES/stal4.jpg
The kit has extra machinery detail that really adds a nice edge and puts it ahead of previous Stalingrad ruins. There is another bag withe a few pipes that I forgot to show.

Ian, next time you may wish to consider Rainbow Ten for Cyberhobby as they on sell them for the lower Japanese price. I find that to buy directly from Cyber hobby means higher postage as well as the original price been higher for those outside of Japan or North America.
