I had this idea today when a modeller showed me a photo of his first dio. I thought it might be Fun to see how many first model photo's or even oldest model photo's people have .
Open the vault anyone?
Think of it as a new years eve treasure trove into the past...................
I will start with my incredibly Tacky first dio, look out for the melted foam walls and the wicked early Tamiya brick walls and figures. This was pre-Verlinden accessories, Circa 1979. uuuurgh!

Hi,
This model is in my 'repair shop' and is the only one I did not get rid of during my last move. I remember that I built this when the 'new' Tamiya M4A3 was hot and Verlinden started becoming available.
It is a conversion based on Tamiya's hull, Italeri's Turret, scratch-built exhausts, interior, and engine deck, detailed hull bottom (OK, I did not know what the M4A2 looked like from below), resin cast wheels, VP Sherman Detail Sets (resin and PE sets). Once the laughing subsides and your eyes dry up, look at the casting marks done by myself using wire and sprue numbers. They are correct and based on photos (sadly, not of the same tank).

You know Saul-that's gotta be the first picture I have ever seen of a model you have worked on, in all the years I've known you. :D I wonder sometimes why we never see any of your completed pieces? Are you shy?
Ian, I can't see the photobucket image?

ROTFLMAO!
James, you, nor anyone else, will see a completed model of mine anytime soon. I made that decision right before I stopped building commissions. As you can see from the casting marks, etcetera, I was getting too carried away and the thought of competitions took away the fun (as did building my models to others' expectations). You have seen models I have worked on...just none are finished.
Here is a promise though. Miguel Jimenez and Adam Wilder offered to come by my home and teach me their methods in my workshop a few days before AMPS East. This is in September. I am hoping they will make it and I plan to video tape it. Plus, you will see me actually finish a model all the way through using the techniques I learn from these masters. Not that I have not learned a LOT from you and Sam and ____ (ALL the guys here).

Here are some other photos I found. These were taken when Dragon put out their Sherman so I grabbed my old kits (still unfinished) to compare. Yes, I have a LOT started.
The point was to take photos of the casting marks to show that I made them. Forgive the poor quality of the photos, they are old.

here are some from 1982 or something- as you can see I built airplanes too.
"Spooky" DC-3 , three modernized Gattling guns (General Electric 7.62mm "Miniguns," each mounted and firing from the port side) for use as a "target suppressor," circling a target and laying down massive fire to eliminate or at least subdue the enemy position. I was really into the Vietnam war history back then.
