Nice job Andy! ;)
What sort of machine did you use to turn the wheels on?

Gday Andy,

The relentless Taylor Modelling Machine rolls on. Love the hull interlocks on the glacis.. which looks really naked without all the mine attachment crapola on it!

Looking forward to seeing this done

Hi guy`s, Rus they are the CMD wheels!.. Larry, thanks!, i first cut off most of the material with some snips, followed by using a sanding disc in the mini drill[ be sure to wear a mask when working with resin], and finally wet sanded to get the final fit..Much the same with re-working the Tamiya wheel!.. Sam, thanks mate!!!..Bit more progress, after Sam spotted a mistake with the placement of the weld beads!!..

Weld beads removed and done using 0.3 plastic rod, Liquid poly method..

The rear fenders made using lead foil, with the ribs indented as per the real vehicle[Tamiyas are raised].

The lifting hooks are moved inwards towards the mantlet as on early T-54`s..I think they were moved on later models when they were upgraded, and fitted with the Luna searchlamp

Thanks again for looking
Andy

Very nice work thus far Andy on what is a fascinating looking vehicle. It's amazing how many variants you can find of this Russian vehicle out there!

Love the weld beads on the glacis...superb work! Which resin bits are those on the turret...Blast?

Hi guy`s, cheers Stuke!, yes they are from the Blast update set..Here are a couple of shots of todays progress on the Radiator cover/slats etc..Next the cooling fan slats will be cut out and replaced with the single type as found on these early model 51 decks!...

Andy, to backdate a T55 to a T54, one needs to: add externial turret blower, drill hole in front slope for drivers MG, use 100mm with no bore-evacuater. Any others that I'm missing? Dan

:) Hi Dan, those are the tip of the iceberg so to speak, but yes those are the main identifiable features!.. This model 51 i am doing has a completely diff engine deck, hatches/fan covers/radiator covers/ fuel inlet/ front Light gaurd/rear track gaurds[ these will have the hold down bars like the front ones!!...] . Here is where i am at now!!

Andy, I'm going to have to break out my Zaloga T55/62 book and look for the detail changes. I didn't realize there were so many differances. Why the resin fuel cells? I have a photo from the Royal Australian Armoured Corps museum booklet of a T59 being off loaded from a ship; I imagine it must have most of the features your kit will have. Dan

Just got the Osprey modelling book on the T55-haven't read it yet, but looks great. I like the idea of having differant authers in one book. Dan
