I've been working on Dragon's Panther Ausf A in addition to many other projects. It was on sale for $17.50, and I couldn't say no ;) . I got the Atak zim set, as I was a little nervous about doing this pattern with putty.

In the pics, I have applied some of the resin zim. I went and did a little chipping on it as well.

It looks good Evan,
Make sure thou to blend the trunion housing(?) the rounded part that the mantlet sits against, in with the front plate as they were cast as one piece. The zim looks good!
What tank are you thinking of doing?

Thanks Larry. I'm taking a break on this one for the time being. Due to semester break, I'm unemployed for a month, so I'm trying to finish off some projects with out buying any more crap :( Trying to figure out some markings and paint job for it. Thinking of going with LSSAH or HJ in Normandy, or Wiking on the Eastern front. Anybody know if Nordland had any of these kitties?

So from checking some refs, it seems that Panther 800 was commanded by this man-

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v231/eaugust/Panther%20Ausf%20A/31435.jpg
Karl Nicolussi-Leck
Also, it seems that while 800 was a commander's vehicle, it was not a Befelspanther. So construction of the kit should be pretty straight forward.

Found a profile from a great site-

This was taken from the article on Wiking Ausf As. However, I'm not entirely sure that this is the same Panther 800 as in the photo. A post on ML seemed to claim two different 800s, while another seemed to confirm that they are the same tank.

Evan,
Nice, I really like that site. Gives you a pretty good idea of the different schemes.
I'd love to see one of these done. Go for it! ;)

Hi Evan,
you can't do his tank as I was going to... I just finished reading Panzer Aces II where was his career described. Interesting reading and inspiring, too.
About the book, not sure how much it can be relied as one of the main characters of book used Panzerfaust in Kursk :o I thought Pf was introduced Sept'43 earliest.
Interesting camo and Wiking division is my fav even as is SS. Maybe Finnish volunteer battalion has something to do with it ;)
Anyway, I would love to see you doing this tank,
Niko

Here's a shot of my first attempt at zim. Not that happy with it though. I used Squadron green, a razor saw, and a piece of card to make the pattern. This stuff dries really fast, I brushed some Testors liquid cement over it and smoothed it out before doing the pattern. But it just seems kind of rough and not very convincing to me. I think I'll sand it down and see if the LHS has some Tamiya putty.

I think you would get better results with either R&J's Zimer-rite or Milliput- Sand that green junk off and try this technique

Hi Evan!
Nice to see that the work with the fine Panther continue! Well IF the 800 were lost a new one would take itīs place. Otherwise it would be the same tank.
I think its nice to see a work with Wiking Panthers. Iīm kind of stuck with the Hitlerjugend. Would it be a stand alone or incoperated in a diorama?
Cheers!

Evans, I will follow your Panther as I have one to do! ;)
Donīt know what to do but from the same place as you found the profile there is another Wiking named Berta that may be nice to do... it is an early A... the only problem is to find time!
Good luck with the zimmerit, I use resin ones for the moment...

Antonio

Hi Evan!
Talking about Zimmerit, I use Magic sculp. Maby not the best but thats what I used. I used allso Milliput, that wasnt good I think AND Tamiyas putty on tube. The Tamiya paste was not that bad at all. Well I have painted my Panther now with the yellow base colour. I cant do the stripe looking camouflage due I dont have a compressor. I realy hate....I HATE to paint the modell with a brush. Man it looks soooo awfull. But I hope I can fix this problem with some washes and more strokes with the base colour.
How is your project going allong?
Cheers!

Yeah, I know the Panther you're talking about. Would make a cool model!
Ebbe, I too have considered using Magicsculp. Problem is I forgot where I put it.
Thanks for all the tips on zim guys. Unfortunately this project is more or less stalled. I've had little time for modelling lately.

The problem I counter is that I tend to spend to much time with the models....maby not the best concept allways. But here is a picture that might warm you. Itīs a Wiking Panther and I think itīs the 800 you are doing. Well I think for most people the building thing has itīs ups and downs.
